Can AI design a hoodie? Free hoodie design maker
Yes. Describe the fit, the hood, the pocket and the fleece in one line, add where the print goes, and the studio draws the hoodie on a model or flat on white. From there you get a technical flat for the factory and, when you are ready to sample, a production pattern drafted by a professional pattern maker.

Five parts make a hoodie look premium or basic
Every hoodie has the same parts. The difference between a basic blank and a premium streetwear piece is how each one is cut and finished, so name them in your brief instead of writing "premium".
- The hood. A two-panel hood has one seam down the middle and can come to a point; a three-panel hood adds a center strip and sits rounder on the head. A lined, double-layer hood stands up instead of collapsing.
- The pocket. A classic kangaroo pocket, a split pocket with a seam in the middle, side-seam pockets, or none at all for a cleaner front. A raw or bound edge changes the whole mood.
- The rib. Cuffs and hem in 1x1 or 2x2 rib, usually with a little elastane so they recover. Deep rib hems read vintage; a hem with no rib reads boxy and modern.
- The fit. Oversized with dropped shoulders, regular with set-in sleeves, or cropped. Say which, because the shoulder line moves with it.
- The cord. Flat or round, with metal tips, knotted ends, or no cord at all; eyelets or plain buttonholes.
Fleece weight, in grams per square meter
Weight is the number buyers ask for first. The bands below are typical trade ranges for cotton or cotton-blend sweat fabrics, labelled as such; mills quote their own.
| Weight | Grams per m² | Feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Light | About 240-280 | A layering hoodie for spring, drapes softly |
| Mid | About 300-350 | The everyday retail hoodie |
| Heavy | About 380-450 | Streetwear: holds its shape, structured hood |
| Extra heavy | 450 and above | Stiff when new, boxy, the luxury blank |
Loopback (French terry) shows small loops inside and breathes; brushed fleece is soft and warmer. Put the choice in the brief: a heavyweight loopback and a brushed midweight are very different hoodies.
Where the print goes
Placement is part of the design, so draw it. A small left-chest logo, a center-chest graphic a hand’s width below the neck seam, a full back print, a sleeve hit, a hem tab. Say the technique too: screen print sits flat, puff print rises, embroidery adds texture and cost, and a large print on heavy fleece is stiffer than the cloth around it.
Heavyweight blank
Brief to paste
An oversized heavyweight hoodie in washed black loopback fleece, dropped shoulders, two-panel lined hood with no drawcord, raw-edge kangaroo pocket, deep 2x2 rib cuffs and hem, front view on white.
The blank to start a line from; add your print in a second render.
Varsity graphic
Brief to paste
A regular-fit hoodie in heather gray brushed fleece, three-panel hood with a flat cotton drawcord and metal tips, split kangaroo pocket, cream puff-print varsity lettering across the chest, rib cuffs and hem, front view on white.
Cropped zip
Brief to paste
A cropped zip-up hoodie in sage midweight French terry, boxy fit ending at the waist, two-panel hood, side-seam pockets, a tonal embroidered logo at the left chest, no rib at the hem, front view on white.
From the drawing to the factory
A factory quotes from a flat: a black-line drawing of the hoodie front and back with the seams, rib, pocket and print positions. The flat sketch tool draws one from a photo of your sample or of the design image you made here.
To sample, order the production pattern from the studio: a professional pattern maker drafts the DXF file from your design, from $29, with the price shown before you pay. Grading to your sizes and a tech pack are add-ons, and the fleece you chose goes in the order so the pattern allows for its stretch and shrinkage.
Questions
Is the hoodie design maker free?
Your first hoodie design in the studio costs nothing, no account required. After it, one design image is 5 credits ($0.50), and a free account opens with a one-time welcome of 50 credits, then tops up with 15 credits each month.
Can I add my own logo to the hoodie design?
Yes, as placement: say where the print goes and the studio shows it there. AI rendering cannot reproduce your exact logo faithfully, so the studio offers an approximation or records your interest in exact matching. Your own artwork file is what goes to print.
Can I see the hoodie on a model?
Yes. Ask the studio for it worn, or, once you have a sample, photograph it and use the clothes on a model tool.
How do I get the hoodie made?
Order the DXF pattern from your design (from $29), add grading and a tech pack if the factory needs them, and send those with the flat to your manufacturer.
